James and Daniel both participated in the Cub Scout Pinewood Derby race this past week. Out of 23 boys, James came in 17th and Daniel came in 13th. But they'll both tell you they weren't going for "speed". :-) They were go

ing for uniqueness. Daniel made an army tank and used camo rub-ons to decorate the whole thing. It was very cool looking. (I say was, because it started to fall apart after 12 heats of racing!) James had a really creative idea. He wanted to make an alien spaceship that hovered over his ca

r and had blinking lights. Unfortunately, I quashed the idea halfway through construction when I actually read the rules for the derby, which say that no parts of the car can be atached by springs or elastic means. Bummed out, James made a quasi-fighter-alien-blinky-car, firmly attached to its base and wheels. Personally, I would like to see a construction of his original idea. I think it would have been really cool.
